Bwala rushed to announce himself SA Media to the President. That is the
highest ranking job in the image laundering of the president. When his appointment was announced last week, he was named Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media. He didn't even bother to properly clarify his position from those he met there, but granted a press interview, announced himself as the principal presidential spokesperson and even granted a press conference in Aso Rock. Within three days! They have now clarified his position that he is to speak on policy, which is fair. Charles Idaewor said something on this issue on Journalists' Hangout last Friday. Trivial though, he said from a linguistic lens, "the president approved the appointment of" translates to someone submitted a memo that was approved, compared to "the president appoints". I think there is some substance here. There is someone who is pushing these appointments. The person obviously doesn't clear with the team before asking the president for approval. In recruitment, the line manager, HR, and others may need to approve a new team member before the director or big boss signs off. The reverse seems to be happening here and the media team has pushed back. It would be a long two years for Daniel Bwala as he'd spend more time defending himself and his lack of principles. |
