President Tinubu Approves Restructuring Of Presidential Media Team - Politics

STATE HOUSE PRESS STATEMENT

PRESIDENT TINUBU APPROVES RESTRUCTURING OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

President Bola Tinubu has re-designated the positions of two recently appointed officials in the State House media and communications team to enhance efficiency within the government's communication machinery.

The restructuring is as follows:

1.Mr. Sunday Dare – hitherto Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation is now Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications.

2. Mr. Daniel Bwala – announced last week as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication, is now Special Adviser Policy Communication.

These appointments, along with the existing role of Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, underscore that there is no single individual spokesperson for the Presidency.

Instead, all the three Special Advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the government.

This approach aims to ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, decisions, and engagements.

Earlier, Daniel Bwala announced himself as the the official presidential spokesperson, taking the position previously held by Ajuri Ngelale. He made this assertion on twitter and in his press interview at the Aso Villa

Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has announced himself as the new presidential spokesman.

There had been some confusion as Bayo Onanuga, designated as special adviser on communication and strategy, had been the presidential spokesman since the exit of Ajuri Ngelale, who was special adviser on media and publicity.

Onanuga also moved to the office previously occupied by Ajuri at the presidential villa.
But in a tweet yesterday, Bwala announced himself as the presidential spokesman.

Also in an interaction with State House correspondents yesterday, Bwala, former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign in 2023, rejected claims that his appointment was down to pecuniary gains.

He emphasised the importance of staying focused on the larger goals of the Tinubu administration, despite the distractions that often accompanied public office.

Today, I equally had a brief chat with the Press Corps in the State House where I encouraged everyone to work in synergy without fear or favour.

As the Spokesperson to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, I promise to work with every member of the team to advance the cause of our principal, Mr. President.

Daniel Bwala rushed to announce himself SA Media to the President. That is the highest ranking job in the image laundering of the president.

When his appointment was announced last week, he was named Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media.

He didn't even bother to properly clarify his position from those he met there, but granted a press interview, announced himself as the principal presidential spokesperson and even granted a press conference in Aso Rock.

Within three days!

They have now clarified his position that he is to speak on policy, which is fair.

Charles Idaewor said something on this issue on Journalists' Hangout last Friday. Trivial though, he said from a linguistic lens, "the president approved the appointment of" translates to someone submitted a memo that was approved, compared to "the president appoints". I think there is some substance here. There is someone who is pushing these appointments. The person obviously doesn't clear with the team before asking the president for approval. In recruitment, the line manager, HR, and others may need to approve a new team member before the director or big boss signs off. The reverse seems to be happening here and the media team has pushed back.

It would be a long two years for Daniel Bwala as he'd spend more time defending himself and his lack of principles.
