KANO EMIRATE CRISIS: TIME TO RESTORE THE CHERISHED LEGACY OF THE KANO EMIRATE..

Kano Emirate has enjoyed that respect and admiration for centuries as the bastion of Hausaland in Northern Nigeria seen as the largest commercial nerve center where trade and commerce have prospered for a long time, however, the recent dissolution of the Kano Emirates of Bichi, gaya, rano, and karaye created by the immediate past administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has created deepen feelings of bitterness amongst people of Kano State…This problem had its roots in the demise of long-reigning Alhajin Ado Bayero in 2014 and the subsequent succession crisis pitching suspended CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who had close links with then Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, contending with other forces sympathetic to the immediate family of Ado Bayero backed by then President Goodluck Jonathan..In the end, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was crowned New Emir of Kano as compensation for the humiliation suffered as a result of his Suspension as CBN Governor by then President Goodluck Jonathan in 2013.

Then Sanusi Lamido was enthroned as the new Emir of Kano succeeding in the new arrangement, after the end of the Kwankwaso regime in 2015 a new ‘’Pharoah came who did not know Joseph” person erstwhile deputy to Kwankwaso Alhaji Umar Ganduje a few years later the cracks began to appear in the relationship between then Governor of Kano State and Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi 11, it reached the climax in the year 2019 to 2020 when the rift had reached its peak with accusations of insubordination, rebellion, and treachery directed at the emir of Kano..Swiftly the Kano Emirate was broken into four new emirates Rano, Gaya, bichi, and Karaye with new emirs, then the sword of damacle was about to fall on the Emir of Kano when in April 2020 the Government of Kano State by then SSG announced the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir of Kano plus the banishment to Awe community in Nassarawa State in with the royal tradition of deposing traditional rulers...

After the dethronement Muhammadu Sanusi got a court order to free him from perpetual banishment as a result of his exposure and enlightenment as a former FBN CEO and CBN Governor, in the years later the Political climate changed in Kano with the ascension to power of the bitter foes of the ruling APC in Kano the New Nigeria Peoples party led by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso, after a fierce electoral battle and subsequent victory at the highest court in the land the Supreme court in 2023, it was clear that Political scores needed to be settled and there began the move to undo the activities of the former APC administration..

The recent reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi 11, by new Kano Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf is seen by many as undue politicisation of Kano Emirates with significant negative consequences on the important royal stool. This new development has brought division between the returning Emir and the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero with both claiming the throne after securing conflicting Judgments from two Courts over this matter, it is therefore incumbent on the People of Kano to take a definite stance on this crisis to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the Kano Emirates.
